Struggling with anxiety? Here are 5 natural ways to find the calm again.

The anxiety epidemic is real. With today's noisy and uncharted climate, a certain amount of anxiety is normal. We experience many causes of anxiety such as poor health, toxic relationships, unemployment, poverty, social pressures, stress, exposure to violence, trauma, and conflict. Not to mention, the pandemic triggered a 25% increase in prevalence of anxiety and depression worldwide.

The differences between worry and anxiety

Worry

Worry tends to reside only in your mind
Worry is specific to an event
Worry is grounded in reality
Worry is temporary
Worry doesn't impair function

Anxiety
Anxiety affects both body and mind
Anxiety is more generalized
Anxiety is marked by catastrophic thinking
Anxiety is longstanding, even chronic
Anxiety impairs daily function

If taking deep breaths, lighting candles and  thinking happy thoughts just aren’t easing the symptoms of your anxiety, consider these factors and prioritise lifestyle changes that lead to a healthier mental state:

Breaking the Anxiety Cycle

To break the anxiety cycle, you need to become aware of the cycle. So instead of letting your anxious thoughts and feelings drive your behavior, you'll learn to slow down your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

The 333 Rule

Name three sounds you hear, move three parts of your body — your fingers, shoulders, and then feet - point out three things you see. Whenever you feel your brain going 1000 miles per hour, try this exercise to help bring you back to the present moment.

Rewire with new hobbies

Carving out time for your hobbies can be a great form of self-care if you live with anxiety, but there's another benefit too. Each time you learn a new skill, you're increasing your brain's ability to rewire itself. Any new skill you learn will help with this. We’re currently loving reading new books and learning French on Duoling.

Be mindful of over-thinking

Notice when you’re stuck in your head. Overthinking can become such a habit that you don't even recognize when you're doing it. Keep the focus on problem-solving, challenge your thoughts, verbally sooth yourself, prioritse reflecting on moments of over-thinking, learn mindfulness skills on apps like Calm and change the channel (stop watching the news).

Hanxiety is real

“Anxiety is a common feeling when people drink too much,” says Elizabeth Bulat, M.D., a substance abuse specialist at Henry Ford Health. “And for people who are already prone to depression and anxiety, alcohol can worsen symptoms of those conditions.” Rethink how important alcohol is in your life and if it’s worth creating a state of uneasiness in your life. Nothing is more fun than calm, happy brain…not even that bottle of wine.

Your Gut is your second brain

Research suggests that certain dietary supplements may help reduce anxiety symptoms, including magnesium, vitamin D, saffron, omega-3s, chamomile, L-theanine, vitamin C, curcumin, C.B.D., and multivitamins.

Increasing evidence has associated gut microbiota to both gastrointestinal and extragastrointestinal diseases. Dysbiosis and inflammation of the gut have been linked to causing several mental illnesses including anxiety and depression. A 2017 research review looking at how probiotics affect symptoms of depression found that taking a daily probiotic supplement seemed to help with symptoms of both depression and anxiety.

This mix contains Lions Mane, Chaga Mushroom, Cordyceps and  Reishi. Reishi is one of the most commonly used adaptogenic mushrooms because of its benefits to overall wellness. It works to boost the immune system, relieves stress and anxiety, helps one feel more balanced and get deeper sleep. Reishi stimulates the immune system to prevent infection.

A 2019 case study notes that C.B.D. products may benefit people with anxiety disorders. The researchers studied the effects of C.B.D. in 72 individuals with anxiety and poor sleep patterns. After treatment with C.B.D., 79% of the participants experienced decreased anxiety levels, and 66.7% saw improved sleep scores. This restructured oil blend has been nano-emulsified and contains a powerful C.B.D. concentrate with a synergistic terpene blend for enhanced entourage effects, as well as increased bioavailability to promote general health and immunity.

This carefully crafted blend of traditional herbs and beneficial actives proven to induce a peaceful state of being, calm your body and mind, and/or enhance your sleep experience. The combination of anxiolytic and calming actives as well as 600mg C.B.D. can have a sedative effect which wears off within 6-8 hours, thereby allowing you to have a peaceful sleep while avoiding the risk of experiencing fatigue the next day.

Your brain can heal itself

Scientists now know that the brain has an amazing ability to change and heal itself in response to mental experience. This phenomenon, known as neuroplasticity, is considered to be one of the most important developments in modern science for our understanding of the brain. There is hope, there is support and healing looks different on everyone!
